Tony Gee Special Projects is currently handling is
the analysis of construction effects on the Grade I listed
structures of St Pancras Station, London. Forming the new terminus
of the CTRL, this super-hub station has undergone radical
developments during the past five years. Contractor CORBER working
on behalf of Union Railways (North) Ltd has successfully completed
much of the works, including major platform extensions, upgrade
and refurbishment of existing infrastructure, and the construction
of a 350 metre long buried box structure housing the new
Thameslink station.
Such developments in the vicinity of the high profile Victorian
train shed and other historic structures have raised concerns as
to the stresses and effects likely to be generated in the existing
wrought iron and masonry fabric. Tony Gee Special Projects has
performed extensive FE modelling and, in conjunction with the
project stakeholders, have researched and established a set of
permissible stress and deflection criteria to safeguard the
structural integrity throughout the entire construction process.
To date, all monitored data has confirmed the behaviour of the
structures to be within the limits established in the analysis.
